I wanted to write to say a huge thank you for the STUNNING flower arrangements you created for our wedding last week. Just wow.
From the bouquets, to the way you made both the Vine Room and Orangery look so beautiful, to the incredible detail everywhere, David and I absolutely loved it all and couldn't have asked for more. So many people commented on your work. You completely realised my half baked ideas!
I hope your future clients realise how lucky they are to have you at the flower helm.

What a roller coaster ride from conceiving the idea to scouting for the location and having the fortune to make contact with Joe (from Stourhead Gardens) and Hannah of Bowtop Vintage without whom all of this may never have been possible. Special thanks to Hannah who not only did such an outstanding job on the day but made it possible to make this proposal so special with the use of their beautiful vintage props and gorgeous flower arrangements.
And to top it ALL they managed to capture the moment with these stunning and quite frankly priceless photos!
Having never been to Stourhead in person I was relying on Joe, Hannah, photos of the gardens and GoogleMaps to execute the plan and despite some last minute hurdles (inevitable as this was the first time anything like this had been attempted at the gardens) and enduring the anxiety of planning an outdoor event in our temperamental summer weather… everything went to plan and the day was.. Well it was one neither of us will forget for the rest of our lives.
Having initially contacted Hannah through the BowTop Vintage web site, she was very enthusiastic about the project and even created a mock up of the picnic idea I had in mind. With some fine tuning and costs agreed we set the plan in motion. I was fortunate enough to meet up with Hannah at her barn located on the border of Surrey and Hampshire a couple of weeks prior to the big day, and she took ownership of some items Id brought to be incorporated in to the picnic.
Any worries Id had disappeared as within minutes of meeting her as she filled me with complete confidence that the day would go down without a hitch (as it were) and she did not disappoint. In constant (but discrete) communication with me I can honestly say I was privileged to have had her and Bowtop help me pull off this very special day.
Not forgetting Joe who gave the go ahead to use the island and did a great job of not blowing my cover by remaining extremely calm and even giving us an impromptu run down of Stourhead history (not atypical requirement as the Outdoor Experience Officer) as we crossed the lake, I scanned the approaching island for tale tale signs of Hannah’s handy work. Lisa blissfully unaware (somehow?!) of what was in store… Safely transported to this picturesque oasis and surrounded by some of the most awe inspiring scenery either of us has ever witnessed, we stepped on to the island and as the fabulous picnic (Hannah had managed to set up earlier that day - transporting everything by row boat with the help of Joe and her Mum – a partner at Bowtop) came in to view… the penny finally dropped.
Having been informed (by the ever diligent Hannah) as to where the typewriter with my proposal note had been positioned, I led Lisa down the freshly cut path (we later found out Joe had cleared the over grown island the day before and we were the first members of the public to ever step foot there!) behind a large tree to find the flowers (Lisa’s favorite) that the ever talented and fully qualified florist Hannah had arranged.
The note positioned and read, the question, tears and smiles followed by the relief that firstly she said YES but also that I could finally shed the intricate web of lies that Id had to weave for the last 6 months to keep this all a surprise! The picnic was delicious, I gorged while Lisa glowed and after a couple of hours in our wilderness paradise we were whisked back to shore for a romantic walk up to Pantheon to finish off our wine & cheese and watch the sun go down before retiring to The Stourhead B&B for our first night and fiancés.
It was only after the event that we realised Hannah (also a keen photographer) had managed to capture the whole thing (from a secret vantage point on the lake) with some truly superb stills so and we now have these photos to treasure of a moment most couples rarely get to see let alone keep.
Thank you again for making this all possible, I can't recommend the venue or the people that helped me pull this off enough. Heres to many more Stourhead proposals. Neither of us tire of reminiscing on this wonderful day in our lives.

PS. We have now set a date for the wedding which will actually be 1 year to the day of the proposal, 20th July 2014 in California, but pretty sure if it was in the UK, Stourhead would be the favourite for the venue
… If we were to have the wedding in the UK, Bowtop would definitely be being hired for our big day!
